Frequently Asked Questions

About Healthy Little Heroes

What is Healthy Little Heroes?

Healthy Little Heroes provides fun, hands-on nutrition education programs for young children. Through stories, games and interactive activities, we help children learn about food, healthy eating and where food comes from. Our programs make learning about food fun and help children build healthy habits from an early age.

Who are your programs for?

Our programs are designed for children aged 2–6 years. We offer different experiences for toddlers and preschool-aged children, with activities suited to their age and stage of learning. Visit our Programs page to find the best program for your group.

Where do you deliver your programs?

We visit early learning services across Western Sydney and surrounding areas, including the Hawkesbury, Hills District, Blacktown, Parramatta, Cumberland, Blue Mountains and Penrith. We also deliver incursions in Sydney, Inner West, South West, Central Coast and more! Not sure if we visit your area? Get in touch and we’ll let you know. Travel fees may apply depending on your location.

Who delivers the programs

Our programs are delivered by friendly, experienced educators who love helping children learn about food and health. Healthy Little Heroes was founded by Bonny Keevers, who has a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science. Our programs combine nutrition knowledge with fun, hands-on activities that help children learn through play.

Do your programs support the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF)?

Yes! Our programs support learning areas within the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), including children’s health, wellbeing, communication and understanding of the world around them. Children learn through stories, play, hands-on activities and conversations about food. These experiences can also help educators build on children’s learning after the session.

Our programs and sessions

What programs do you offer?

We offer a range of fun, hands-on programs that help children explore food, nutrition and healthy habits. I Can EAT a Rainbow: Children explore colourful fruit and vegetables and learn how different foods help our bodies. Little Farmers: Children discover where food comes from and learn about growing food and life on the farm. Happy Lunchbox: Children explore lunchbox foods and learn about the different food groups. Mini Rainbow Heroes: Toddlers explore colours and food through hands on, sensory activities. Each program offers a different learning experience. Visit our Programs page to find out more.

How long does an incursion run for?

Our preschooler programs (suitable for children 3-6 years) run for 45-50 minutes. Our toddler programs (suitable for children 2-3 years) run for 35 minutes. Each program page lists the session length so you can choose an experience that fits your daily routine.

How many children can participate in a session?

The number of children depends on the program and their age. Our preschool programs generally cater for up to 25-30 children per session, while our toddler programs have smaller group sizes (12-15 children) to help children get the most out of the experience. Have a larger group? We can discuss running more than one session at your service.

Do you bring everything needed for the incursion?

Yes! We bring the props, resources and materials needed for your chosen program. From colourful food props to fun, hands-on activities, we take care of the session materials so your team can relax and enjoy the experience with the children.

What does our service need to provide?

All we ask is that your service provides a suitable space for the session and educators to supervise and support the children. We’ll let you know if there is anything else to organise before we visit. We aim to make booking an incursion simple, with very little preparation needed from your team.

Do educators need to participate?

Yes! We encourage educators to join in and enjoy the session alongside the children. Being involved gives educators ideas they can use again during everyday activities, conversations and play. You can revisit what the children learned and help them keep exploring food and healthy habits long after our visit.

Bookings and practical information

How far in advance should we book?

We recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred date. Some times of the year are busier than others, and popular dates can fill quickly. Planning next year’s activities? You can also enquire about future dates.

Can we book more than one session or program?

Absolutely! You can book multiple sessions for different groups of children or discuss combining programs during the same visit. Multiple sessions can be a great way to reach more children at your service. Discounts may be available for some multiple-session bookings, depending on your location and booking arrangements. Let us know how many children you have and which programs you’re interested in, and we’ll provide a quote.

Can we book different programs throughout the year?

Yes! Many services enjoy bringing different Healthy Little Heroes programs to their children throughout the year. For example, you could explore colourful fruit and vegetables with I Can EAT a Rainbow, discover where food comes from with Little Farmers, and explore lunchbox foods with Happy Lunchbox. Offering different programs throughout the year gives children more chances to learn about food through new activities and experiences.

How much does an incursion cost?

Our prices depend on the program, your location and whether you’re booking one or more sessions. Travel fees may apply for some locations. We’ll confirm the price with you before your booking is finalised. To receive a quote, tell us your service location, preferred program, number of children and preferred date.

How do we book an incursion?

Booking is easy! Choose your program: Explore our programs and find the best fit for your children. Send us an enquiry: Tell us about your service, the number of children, your preferred program and your preferred date. We’ll be in touch: We’ll check availability and confirm the price and booking details with you. Not sure which program to choose? Get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

Food, allergies and inclusion

Do children eat food during the programs?

Our programs mainly use stories, props, games and hands-on activities to help children learn about food. Children do not eat food as part of our standard sessions.

How do you manage food allergies and intolerances?

Please let us know about any food allergies, intolerances or dietary needs before your session. This helps us plan the activities and consider any changes that may be needed. Your service must also let us know about children’s individual needs and continue to follow its usual allergy and food safety procedures.

Can children with additional needs take part?

We want all children to have the chance to enjoy and take part in our programs. If your service has children who may need extra support or changes to an activity, please let us know when booking. We can discuss their needs and explore ways to help them feel comfortable and included.
